“In periods where there is no leadership, society stands still. Progress occurs when courageous, skillful leaders seize the opportunity to change things for the better.” —Harry S. Truman
Leadership is the capacity to impact and stimulate others to attain a shared objective. A leader has the aptitude to establish a clear vision and devise a plan, motivating others to follow suit. Additionally, they are skilled in building trust and fostering a positive work environment.
Effective Leaders must have some qualities that will portray and manifest their leadership skills such as:
1. Influence: able to influence others to follow them by being charismatic and persuasive.
2. Communication: able to communicate effectively with others, both verbally and in writing. They are also able to listen to others and understand their needs.
3. Vision: a clear vision for the future and can communicate that vision to others.
On November 10, 2023, the Philippine Public Safety Academy held a Special Talk at the National Jail Management and Penology Training Institute (NJMPTI) Social Hall led by L.E.A.D Academy with the topic “Authenticity In Leadership”. The event was part of the Character and Competency Development subject of the PPSA MADAYAWLAHI Class of 2025.
The same event also was participated in by the upperclassmen of PPSA SANDIGMANLAYA Class of 2024 and PPSA Personnel. Henceforth, it was an inspirational event having Dr. Guy S. Safford from Trinity Western University as the Special Guest and Speaker who gave a clear and solid path of leadership to inspire the cadets of PPSA.
Moreover, they said that a leader should have Character and Competence to be effective while Dr. Safford also highlighted that becoming an authentic leader must come with transformational leadership qualities. These qualities must come along with having a Clear Purpose, Deep Values, Enduring Relationships, Diligent Self-discipline, Open Hearts, and above all, having God as the center of all.
The cadets also were able to raise questions to the speaker and attained additional knowledge and smart pieces of advice that will be helpful in their journey to becoming future leaders.
Truly, the talk was fruitful and significant as the PPSA Cadets gained additional exposure and experience through a transformational approach done by a leader affecting them as other leaders.
