“A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots.- Marcus Garvey”
In a world that moves at a rapid pace, it is of utmost importance to keep the flame of historical awareness alive, ensuring that the roots of Philippine culture remain firmly grounded in the hearts and minds of future generations. On September 8, 2023, the Philippine Public Safety Academy conducted a local educational tour to further deepen the connection of the fire and jail cadets to the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines. The tour, which included visits to iconic landmarks such as Intramuros, Luneta Park, and the National Museum of Fine Arts, served as a platform for the cadets to immerse themselves in the stories, artistry, and values that have shaped the current reality of the nation.
The visit to Intramuros, the historic walled city, allowed the cadets to step back in time and witness the echoes of the Spanish colonial era. Further, a brief historical narrative held at Luneta Park reminded them of the sacrifices made by Dr. Jose P. Rizal for the sake of Philippine Independence. In the same way, their trip to the National Museum of Fine Arts, a treasure trove of artistry, showcased centuries of craftsmanship of Filipino artists.
By exposing the cadets to the essence of the nation’s culture and heritage, PPSA hopes to instill in them a sense of responsibility to carry with them the knowledge and pride of their heritage, as they continue their academic journey that will ultimately prepare them to contribute to the nation’s future.
